UK Voters to Have Chance to Elect World’s First AI Lawmaker

Businessman Steve Endacott, 59, is running as an independent candidate in Britain’s July 4 national election, with his campaign featuring an AI-generated avatar named “AI Steve”.

Steve Endacott, who heads Neural Voice, is also launching a new political party aimed at recruiting more AI candidates nationwide, marking the start of this initiative.

The Electoral Commission has clarified that if AI Steve wins, Mr. Endacott himself, not the AI, will serve as the Member of Parliament (MP).

Here are some key facts about AI Steve:

  1. AI Steve represents businessman Steve Endacott as an artificial intelligence candidate. AI Steve will be listed on the ballot for the Brighton Pavilion constituency in the UK’s national election on July 4, 2024.
  2. Steve Endacott describes AI Steve as an “eco-friendly capitalist with a conscience, who is disillusioned with traditional politics.” The avatar is capable of “dodging questions like a real politician.”
