Sri Lanka Crowned ‘Most Desirable Island in the World’ at Wanderlust Awards 2024

Sri Lanka has been voted the “Most Desirable Island in the World” at the prestigious Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards 2024 in London, marking a major achievement in the country’s tourism revival.

Over 200,000 enthusiastic travelers cast their votes, propelling Sri Lanka from last year’s eighth place to claim the top spot in a remarkable comeback.

Wanderlust celebrated Sri Lanka’s allure, noting: “Known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean,’ the nation’s history comes to life through spectacular monuments like Sigiriya Rock, Dambulla’s cave temples, and the ancient ruins of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.” The island’s vibrant wildlife, stunning beaches, and lush tea plantations, including the new Pekoe Trail, were also highlighted.

Taiwan secured the Silver award in the same category, with Puerto Rico taking Bronze. Tokyo was named the “Most Desirable City,” followed by Singapore in second place, while Australia was awarded “Most Desirable Country.”

The 23rd Annual Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards recognized top destinations, tour operators, and travel brands across 22 categories, based on over 3 million votes from 168,000 global travel enthusiasts.
